A major illegal alcohol operation has been busted in Busia County after security officers seized a huge amount of ethanol with no legal papers.
The raid happened along the Amase–Amongura Road. A multi-agency team had received useful intelligence about a suspicious trailer that was believed to be carrying illegal goods. Officers moved quickly and chased the vehicle until they managed to stop it.
When they searched the trailer, they found 76 large plastic containers. Each container held 250 litres. In total, the ethanol amounted to about 18,500 litres. According to the authorities, the street value of the seizure is estimated at KSh 22.2 million.
Three suspects were arrested at the scene. They are currently being held in custody and will appear in court soon. The trailer was taken to Adungosi Police Station, where it remains as investigations continue.
The National Police Service has said it will remain alert and committed to stopping illegal activities, protecting honest traders, and keeping the public safe from dangerous or unlawful substances.
