I Thought Loyalty, Hard Work, and Love Would Keep Me Safe, He Says, But They Turned Those Gifts Into Weapons Against Me, Betraying Me in Ways I Could Never Have Imagined While They Laughed Behind My Back

My name is Peter Mwangi, and for most of my adult life, I believed that doing the right thing was enough to protect me. I lived in Thika town, where I worked tirelessly to build a transport and logistics business from nothing. I was loyal to my friends, generous to my family, and committed to helping everyone around me rise with me. I believed that love, honesty, and hard work created a shield that no betrayal could penetrate.
People admired my discipline and dedication. Friends praised my consistency, and relatives often reminded me how proud they were of my success. I trusted them fully. I shared business ideas, financial plans, and even personal struggles with people I believed had my best interests at heart. I defended them whenever anyone questioned their intentions. I truly believed that loyalty would always be returned with loyalty.
As my business grew, so did their access to my life. Some handled money on my behalf. Others connected me to clients and suppliers. I never checked too closely because I trusted them completely. What I didn’t realize was that my openness made it easy for them to study my weaknesses. My kindness became an opportunity. My hard work became something they felt entitled to benefit from.
