“My Wife Changed After Getting a Good Job — Our Home Never Felt the Same Again” Buda Says

My name is Buda, and I always believed that love could overcome any challenge. My wife, Amina, and I had been together for over ten years. We had built a modest life in Kisumu, sharing the joys and struggles of raising two children, managing our small business, and supporting each other through thick and thin. Our love, I thought, was strong enough to withstand anything—until the day Amina got her big break.

Amina had applied for a government position for years without success. When she finally secured a well-paying administrative job in Nairobi, we celebrated as a family. I was genuinely happy for her, proud of her achievements, and hopeful that our lives would improve. But soon after she started working, I noticed subtle changes in her behavior. She became distant, less patient, and increasingly critical of the way I managed the household and our small business.

At first, I thought it was just stress from the new job. I tried to support her, taking on more responsibilities at home and making adjustments to ensure she could settle into her role comfortably. But the tension only grew. Conversations that once flowed easily became arguments over trivial matters. Our evenings, which had been filled with laughter and warmth, were now heavy with silence and frustration. I felt like a stranger in my own home.
