Kenya Met Issues Mixed Weather Forecast for Monday, As the following regions are expected to receive Heavy Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a detailed weather outlook for Monday, January 12, forecasting a mix of sunny intervals, scattered rainfall, and strong winds across various parts of the country.

In an alert issued on Sunday, the weatherman indicated that while most regions will enjoy predominantly sunny conditions, some areas—particularly in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley—are likely to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Regional Breakdown

  1. Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley

Residents in counties including Kisumu, Nakuru, Kericho, Narok, and West Pokot should expect partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.

  1. Highlands East of the Rift Valley (Including Nairobi)

Counties such as Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, and Nyandarua will experience sunny intervals for most of the day, with no significant rainfall anticipated.

  1. Northwestern Region

Turkana and Samburu counties are forecast to have sunny weather throughout the day. However, strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in parts of Turkana.

  1. Northeastern Region

Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, and Isiolo will remain sunny, with Marsabit also likely to experience strong southeasterly winds above 25 knots.

  1. Southeastern Lowlands & Coast

Areas including Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, and coastal counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu will enjoy sunny intervals with no rainfall expected.

Safety Advisory

In light of possible isolated heavy downpours, the Meteorological Department reiterated safety guidelines for flooding and thunderstorms:

· Avoid driving or walking through moving water.
· Do not stand under trees, near grilled windows, or in open areas during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of lightning strikes.

The department continues to monitor conditions and urges the public to stay updated through official channels.
