I had worked in that company for seven years without a warning letter, a suspension, or any complaint on my record. I arrived early, left late, and trained most of the new staff, including the man who would later replace me. So when I was suddenly demoted during a brief meeting, I thought it was a mistake.
No explanation was given. My supervisor avoided eye contact and only said, “Management decision.” Overnight, my responsibilities were taken away, my office was reassigned, and my former junior occupied my seat. Colleagues stopped talking to me freely, as if I had done something terrible.
