How My Hotel Business Grew From Making Ksh 1,000 to Ksh 10,000 Per Day

Running a small hotel is not as easy as people think. For me, it started with hope and big expectations, but reality quickly hit. On most days, my sales barely reached Ksh 1,000. Some days, not even a single customer walked in.
I would open early, close late, cook fresh food, and still throw half of it away in the evening. Bills kept piling up while profits stayed painfully low. What hurt most was seeing nearby hotels thrive while mine struggled.
We were in the same location, sold similar food, and charged almost the same prices. I kept asking myself what I was doing wrong. I tried promotions, reduced prices, changed menus, and even renovated slightly.
Nothing worked. It reached a point where I started thinking of closing the business completely. The stress affected my sleep and my family. I felt embarrassed borrowing money just to restock supplies.
People told me to be patient, that business takes time. But deep inside, I knew something wasn’t adding up. This struggle felt deeper than normal business challenges. It was like effort and results were completely disconnected.
