Three Men Deported from US To Eswatini file Legal case for unlawful detention

Three men deported from the United States to Eswatini  have filed a legal case accusing the southern African nation of unlawfully detaining them.

The men, originally from Cuba, Yemen, and Jamaica, were deported by U.S. authorities to Eswatini under a policy that allows migrants to be sent to third countries instead of their home nations. According to their lawyers, two of the men have been held for more than eight months without charges.

The case has been filed before the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, arguing that their detention violates international human rights laws since they have not committed any crimes in Eswatini and were not given proper legal process.

However, Eswatini’s government denies the accusations, saying the men are not imprisoned but are being securely housed while diplomatic efforts continue to return them to their home countries.
