The day we gathered to bury my cousin Peter was supposed to bring closure to our grieving family. Peter had died suddenly after a short illness, and although the loss was painful, everyone believed we would finally say our last goodbyes and allow his soul to rest peacefully.
Relatives travelled from different towns to attend the funeral. The compound was filled with people sharing memories, offering condolences, and comforting Peter’s parents. The burial ceremony was arranged carefully, and the grave had already been prepared early that morning.
When the time came for the burial, several men stepped forward to lower the coffin into the grave. But something strange happened that no one could explain. As the ropes were pulled to lower the coffin, it suddenly tilted in a strange way and refused to go down properly.
The men adjusted their grip and tried again, thinking maybe the ropes had been tangled. Yet the same thing happened again. The coffin shifted awkwardly and would not settle into the grave.
At first, people thought it was just a small mistake during the burial process. But after several attempts, the situation became disturbing. The coffin simply refused to go down smoothly no matter how carefully the men tried to lower it.
Whispers began spreading among the mourners. Some elders exchanged worried looks while others quietly suggested that something unusual might be happening.
