Kenya Weather Update: Expect heavy Rainfall this April in the following Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has officially released the climate outlook for April 2026, and it comes with mixed news for different parts of the country. As this month marks the peak of the long rains season, Kenyans are being encouraged to stay informed and prepare accordingly.
When it comes to rainfall, it varies from region to region. Near-average rainfall is expected in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley itself, and parts of Northwestern Kenya. If you are in North-eastern Kenya, especially in northern Marsabit, Wajir, and Mandera, you should prepare for above-average rainfall, check all counties and the amount of rainfall expected here
However, for most of the South-Eastern Lowlands, some isolated areas in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, and parts of Northwestern and North-eastern Kenya, the rains are likely to be near to below average. Along the Coastal region, forecasters predict below-average rainfall, with the first half of the month looking particularly dry before conditions improve slightly toward the end. Still, occasional afternoon and evening storms may pop up across the country.
Temperatures will also vary depending on where you are. Warmer-than-average conditions are expected along the Coast, as well as in the North-eastern and Northwestern regions. In contrast, the Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley will experience near to below-average temperatures, offering some relief from the heat.
With this outlook in mind, authorities have issued several important advisories. Farmers in high-potential areas are being urged to prepare for possible waterlogging by strengthening their drainage systems. For communities living in flood-prone zones, the message is clear: clear drainage channels and stay cautious near rivers and low-lying areas. In the arid and semi-arid lands, particularly the South-Eastern Lowlands and the Coast, residents are encouraged to continue harvesting water and managing moisture efficiently. Everyone is also reminded to stay alert for flash floods, soil erosion, and landslides during heavy rainfall events.
As the month unfolds, it is wise to keep up with local updates and take the necessary steps to stay safe and make the most of the season.
