Tragedy: Four Young Children Killed at Daycare Centre, Suspect in custody

A quiet Thursday morning at a daycare centre in Ggaba turned into a scene of horror when a man attacked young children, killing four of them before police arrived and arrested him.
The incident happened around 11:00 am on April 2, 2026, at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare facility located in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala City.
Police received a distress call about a man attacking children at the centre. Officers rushed to the scene and managed to arrest the suspect, who has been identified as 39-year-old Okello Christopher Onyum.
According to preliminary findings from the Uganda Police Force, four minors lost their lives during the attack. The children were all pupils at the same daycare.
The young victims have been named as Eteku Gideon, a boy aged about two years; Kaise Alungat, a girl aged about two years; Ignatius Sserwange, a boy aged about three years; and Ryan Odeke, a boy aged about two years.
The suspect is currently being interrogated. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish his motive, background, and any other details surrounding this terrible crime.
The Uganda Police Force has extended its deepest condolences to the families who lost their children. They have assured the public that every effort is being made to carry out a thorough investigation and to ensure justice for the victims.
