TransNzoia Governor George Natembeya was today arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court and charged with two counts of conflict of interest and one count of unlawful acquisition of public property.
The state alleges that in the first account which occurred between January 1, 2023 and April 30th 2025, the vocal Governor acquired an indirect pecuniary interest in sh 1,127,900 from Mercy Chelangat, the director of Lyma Agro science limited and the property of Maria stores that had traded with the county government of TransNzoia.
The prosecutor further alleges that Governor Natembeya unlawfully acquired public property as Sh 3,252,568 being part of payment made by the county government to Mercy Chelangat’s firm.
Appearing before magistrate Charles Ondieki Natembeya however pleaded not guilty to all the charges
However the prosecutor opposed that the governor should not be released on Bond claiming that he might interfere with investigation, witnesses and exhibits.
