Autopsy Reveal what Killed the Construction Worker at Talanta Stadium.

An autopsy has confirmed that Sammy Kyengo, a construction worker who went missing on September 6, 2025, at the Talanta Sports Stadium construction site, died as a result of mild traumatic head injuries and drowning. His body was discovered on September 13, floating in a water sump behind the terraces under construction, bringing a tragic end to a week-long search.

The grim discovery was preceded by another unsettling find. On Friday, September 12, Kyengo’s shoes, gloves, and a jumper were found abandoned in a changing room at the site. These personal effects were later handed over to his grieving widow, Christine, by his foreman at the human resources office.

Notably, this discovery of his belongings occurred just a day prior to the recovery of Kyengo’s body, which was found under circumstances that authorities confirm remain under active investigation.

According to investigators at the scene, Kyengo had visible injuries on the back of his head and neck, and blood was observed oozing from his nose and mouth. Adding to the mysterious circumstances, his mobile phone had been offline since the very day he vanished.

In a heart-wrenching statement to reporters, Christine Kyengo revealed that her husband had been deeply frustrated over delayed wages in the days leading up to his disappearance. “He was upset about not being paid on time. It was a constant worry for him, for us,” she shared, painting a picture of a man under financial strain before he went missing.

The Talanta Sports Stadium, a flagship project, is now at the center of a somber investigation into worker safety and welfare. The discovery has sent ripples through the community, raising serious questions about the conditions and protocols at major construction sites.

As police continue to piece together the final hours of Sammy Kyengo’s life, his family is left to mourn a life cut short, seeking answers amidst their profound loss. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the treatment and protection of laborers in Kenya’s rapidly expanding construction industry.
