Busia County Set for Major Infrastructure Overhaul as Key Road Upgrades About to Commence.

Residents and businesses in Busia County have reason to celebrate as long-awaited road upgrades finally move from planning to reality. The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has officially invited tenders for two major infrastructure projects, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development.

In a public announcement, Dr. Paul Otuoma confirmed that the tender process is now underway for the critical Matayos–Namwistula Bridge and Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road projects. The invitation for eligible bidders represents the culmination of extensive planning and underscores the government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure in Western Kenya.

The project timeline has been clearly outlined, with site visits scheduled to ensure competitive bidding. Contractors will visit the Matayos–Namwistula Bridge site (categorized under Nasewa CAIP) on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, followed by the Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road site visit on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Dr. Otuoma emphasized that this progress reflects “strong collaboration between Busia County and the National Government,” characterizing quality road networks as “catalysts for economic growth and improved agricultural productivity.” The announcement also hinted at forthcoming tender processes for additional roads in the region, suggesting this is merely the beginning of a comprehensive infrastructure improvement initiative.

Local farmers and business owners have expressed enthusiasm about the developments. The improved roads are expected to facilitate better market access for agricultural products, reduce transportation costs, and enhance overall connectivity between rural areas and major economic centers.

The tender invitation represents a crucial step toward transforming transportation in Busia County, with potential bidders now preparing to submit proposals that could shape the region’s infrastructure landscape for decades to come.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated as KeRRA moves forward with the tender evaluation process and eventual contractor selection.
