Residents of Odiria village in Amukura West Ward, Teso South Constituency, had a terrible night last night. Heavy rains poured down for hours, causing flooding that forced many families to leave their homes in the middle of the night.
The downpour started in the evening and did not stop. By midnight, water had entered many houses, destroying property and making it dangerous for people to stay inside. Men, women, and children had no choice but to brave the cold and walk to a nearby school, where they are now taking shelter.
Locals say this is one of the worst floods they have seen in years. Many have lost food, bedding, and other basic items. Some are still waiting to see if their homes can be saved once the water goes down.
The affected families are now appealing to the county disaster team and the national government to step in quickly. They need temporary shelter, food, blankets, and clean water. Health concerns are also growing, especially for young children and the elderly who spent the night in wet clothes.
So far, no injuries or deaths have been reported, but locals say the situation is still fragile. More rain is expected in the coming days, and residents are worried things could get even worse.
Leaders from Teso South Constituency have been asked to visit the area and assess the damage. The families of Odiria village are holding on to hope that help will arrive before another storm hits.
