In a move that bridges the worlds of African entertainment and global philanthropy, celebrated Kenyan actress and advocate Catherine Kamau, known universally as Kate Actress, has been appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for the newly formed “Bill Gates & Friends” social movement.
This prestigious role, announced ahead of the campaign’s launch later this month in the United States, positions the beloved star as a leading African voice on a global stage, with a special focus on Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria.
The appointment is a cornerstone of the sprawling “Bill Gates 70th Birthday Campaign,” far more than a simple tribute. Billed as a landmark event, the campaign aims to mobilize leaders, innovators, and philanthropists to sustain the Microsoft co-founder’s lifelong vision. The main celebration, scheduled for October 28, 2025, is designed to spark action and expand upon Gates’ colossal contributions to global health, education, technology, and philanthropy.
For Kate Actress, this is a validation of a career built as much on advocacy as on artistry.
“Beyond her artistry, she is widely respected for her advocacy, authenticity and cross-generational appeal,” a campaign statement noted, highlighting her founding of the Auntie Kate Foundation, which empowers vulnerable women and girls in Kenya.
In her new capacity, Kate Actress will have a dynamic and impactful portfolio. She will be tasked with onboarding African changemakers into a digital campaign spotlighting Gates’ humanitarian legacy, collaborating with the campaign’s anthem artist on a powerful musical piece, and leading storytelling efforts for major upcoming global events.
These events include the Monthly Humanitarian Legacy Festivals starting in February 2026 and the ambitious “Future of Humanity Initiative.” This initiative, to be unveiled at the October celebration, is already a monumental force, with over $3 billion (approximately Ksh.387.6 billion) pledged by philanthropists worldwide. The funds are committed to Gates’ foundational dream: ensuring every child has enough food, proper medical care, and access to education through to college.
The “Bill Gates & Friends” movement, while independent of the formal Gates Foundation, is designed to honour his achievements while inspiring future generations to lead with innovation and service.
The campaign also promises a strong digital component for public participation. Supporters worldwide can share birthday wishes using hashtags like #BillGatesA170, #CelebrateImpact, and #FutureofHumanity, nominate African changemakers for recognition, and participate in giveaways.
For the star of Kenyan screens, this appointment is more than an accolade; it is a culmination. It cements her place not only as a towering figure in African entertainment but as a formidable voice poised to help shape the global conversation on humanity’s shared future.
