KDF Recruitment 2025: Nationwide Drive Opens with October Deadline.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has officially announced a major nationwide recruitment drive, set to commence in October 2025. The initiative aims to enlist qualified Kenyan citizens into various military roles, offering opportunities for both new entrants and specialized professionals.

Open Positions and Eligibility

The recruitment covers multiple categories, including:

  • General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets – Regular and Graduate
  • Specialist Officers
  • General Duty Recruits
  • Tradesmen/Women
  • Defence Forces Constables

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a valid National ID and meet specific age requirements:

  • 18–26 years: GSO Cadets (Regular & Graduate) and General Duty Recruits
  • Not above 30 years: Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/Women
  • Not above 39 years: Chaplains/Imams
  • 30–55 years: Retired KDF personnel applying as Constables
  • 35–45 years: Retired NYS members applying as Constables

Physical standards include a minimum height of 1.60m for men and 1.52m for women, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 30. Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or training.

Academic and Professional Requirements

  • GSO Cadets – Regular: KCSE Mean Grade B (Plain), with C+ in English, Mathematics, and one Science subject. Training lasts three years, culminating in a BSc in Defence & Security Studies.
  • GSO Cadets – Graduate: Must meet regular GSO requirements and hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Training is condensed to 15 months.
  • Specialist Officers: Require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and registration with a statutory body where applicable. Training spans six months.
  • General Duty Recruits: Minimum KCSE Mean Grade D (Plain). NYS graduates have an added advantage.
  • Tradesmen/Women: Diploma holders need a KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain) and relevant qualifications, while artisans require a KCSE Mean Grade D+ and a Trade Test Grade II or Craft II Certificate.

How to Apply

Online applications are mandatory for GSO Cadets, Specialist Officers, and similar categories via the official KDF recruitment portal: https://recruit.mod.go.ke. The application deadline is October 12, 2025. Shortlisting will occur between October 21–24, 2025, with results published in national print media.

In-person recruitment for General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables will take place at designated centers, with schedules to be announced separately by the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force.

The KDF has issued a stern warning against corruption, emphasizing that no payment is required at any stage of the recruitment process.
