Sonko Honoured with Prestigious International Leadership Awards.

In a ceremony steeped in tradition and global prestige, former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was the recipient of three major international honours, including an honorary doctorate, at the British Parliament on Friday.

The awards were presented during the 3rd Edition of the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) Global Leadership Investment Summit and Peace Awards (GLISPA), held at the historic House of Lords.

Sonko, who attended the event both as a keynote speaker and an award recipient, was recognised for his contributions to sustainable humanitarian efforts, social work, and human capital development.

“Yesterday, together with other nominated leaders globally, I received the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) Honors at the British Parliament,” Sonko shared in a statement.

The specific accolades conferred upon him include a joint Leadership Excellence Award from the UNIPGC and the Jewel Howard Taylor Leadership Program—named after the former Vice President of Liberia—and an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Leadership and Governance from the American University of Peace and Governance, USA.

In his keynote address, the former county boss reflected on the essence of true leadership, striking a chord with the international audience. “True leadership is not measured by titles or positions, but by the impact we make on humanity,” he said.

He further elaborated on his philosophy, stating, “Leadership without compassion is incomplete. Throughout my years in public service, I have sought to go beyond policies and politics to touch lives in tangible ways.”

The UNIPGC bestows these annual awards on organisations and individuals in recognition of their significant contributions to peace, leadership, and sustainable development worldwide. The event was organised by the UK Chapter of the council.

An image shared by Sonko showed the three elegant awards, symbolising a moment of high international recognition for the flamboyant politician, often known for his controversial and headline-grabbing tenure as governor.

This honour places Sonko among a cohort of global leaders celebrated by the council for their transformative work, potentially marking a new chapter in his public life focused on international humanitarian and governance discourse.
