SHA Makes  Leadership Changes with Reshuffles and New Appointments.

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has embarked on a major organizational overhaul, announcing the appointment of 16 new Deputy Directors and 9 Principal Claims Management Officers in a significant strengthening of its senior leadership team.

The move, confirmed by the SHA Board in a communique on Thursday, October 9, follows a competitive and transparent recruitment process that began on July 9, 2025.

The newly-appointed leaders are expected to be instrumental in enhancing SHA’s operational efficiency, particularly in delivering financial risk protection and expanding access to quality healthcare for Kenyans.

This latest wave of appointments comes just weeks after the Authority named four new Directors in September, signaling a comprehensive restructuring of its top-tier management.

The newly unveiled Deputy Directors will head critical strategic departments, forming the backbone of SHA’s national and county operations. Among the notable appointments are:

  • Ms. Valentine Jepkorir Morogo as Deputy Director for County Coordination.
  • Daniel Owino Konyango for Legal Services.
  • Caren Awuor Oduor for Finance and Accounts.
  • Dr. Kandie Ng’ochoch for Claims Management.
  • Margaret Nyambura Macharia for Benefits Management.
  • Jacob Muia Mutinda for Corporate Communications.
  • Geoffrey Kones for Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Other departments covered by the new appointments include internal audit, supply chain, registration and compliance, provider management, administration, and planning and linkages.

The September director-level appointments saw Diana Marion named Director for Provider and Beneficiary Management and Golda Larissa Akolo taking charge of Benefits and Claim Management.

Marion currently also serves as the Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA). Mohammed Alio Ibrahim was appointed Director for Corporate Services, while Jonathan Liesen will head Funds and Finance Management.

In a parallel move to bolster its core operational functions, SHA has also appointed nine Principal Claims Management Officers. These officers are tasked with strengthening oversight and efficiency in claims processing, a vital component of the authority’s day-to-day activities. The appointees include George Waihenya, Joseph Mboke, Omar Sadik, Scholarstic Murunga Wekesa, and Josephine Kuria, among others.

This leadership expansion is part of a broader recruitment drive by SHA to fill over 500 positions across its national and county operations. The vacancies span from senior management to entry-level roles.

The authority has already released a list of shortlisted candidates for various positions, including Director for Internal Audit and several Assistant Director roles, complete with their ethnic backgrounds and scheduled interview dates.

Under the leadership of CEO Mercy Mwangangi, these strategic hires mark a pivotal step for SHA as it seeks to build a robust framework to manage Kenya’s social health landscape effectively.
