Two suspected armed robbers met a fatal end at the hands of an irate mob in Kondele, Kisumu County, on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred during an attempted robbery targeting a local resident.
According to police reports, a gang of five suspects carried out the brazen attack in broad daylight. While two of the suspects were overpowered and killed by residents responding to the incident, three accomplices managed to escape the scene.
Kisumu Central Deputy OCPD Mwanauli Bakari confirmed the incident, stating that police have launched a manhunt to track down the remaining three suspects.
Police officers responding to the scene recovered several stolen items, including a black 55-inch LG television set and other valuables taken from the victim. The bodies of the two deceased suspects were moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
Police Condemn Vigilantism
Deputy OCPD Bakari issued a strong warning against residents taking the law into their own hands. He urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers to ensure due process is followed.
“We are appealing to members of the public to allow the police to do their work,” Bakari emphasized. “Killing suspects interferes with investigations and denies us the chance to dismantle broader criminal networks.”
The police reiterated their commitment to investigating both the initial robbery attempt and the subsequent mob killing, appealing for calm and cooperation from the community.
