US Government Call for Probe into Torture of Boniface Mwangi & Agather Atuhaire.

Through the bureau of African affairs the us government have called for the investigation of the allegations of human rights violation involving activist Boniface Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire in Tanzania.

The US has appealed to all countries in the region to hold capable all those found guilty for the torture of the two activists.

The United States is deeply concerned by reports of the mistreatment in Tanzania of two East African activists – Ugandan activists Agather Atuhaire and Kenyan Activists Boniface Mwangi. Atuhaire was recognised by the US state department in 2024 as international women of courage..,

We call for an immediate and full investigation into the allegations of human rights abuses. We urge all the countries in the region to hold to account those responsible for violating human rights, including torture.

The two activists Mwangi and Atuhaire were arrested on Monday in Tanzania where they had gone to show support to the detained opposition leader Tundu Lissu who was arraigned in court on the same Monday.

The were held incommunicado for almost one week resurfacing at their country’s border points.

The incident sparked mixed reactions from various leaders who accuse Tanzanian government for allegedly abusing the two.

Former Justice Minister Martha Karua has already written to various continental organization demanding immediately action against Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu’s government.
