MP Mukunji Sue Government for Misuse of Anti-Terror Laws.

The Manyatta member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has filed a petition against the inspector general of police Douglas Kanja, The director of criminal investigation Mohammed Amin, and the Director of Public Prosecution Renson Igonga over the arrest of peaceful protesters on July 7th.

The case, filed at the High Court in Milimani, alleges a political motivated campaign by the government to silence dissent by weaponising the prevention of terrorism act and seeks to have the cases dismissed.

He further claims that his recent arrest alongside journalist Ikuwa Mbochi and boda boda rider Stanley Mbuthia Wanjiru was a total abuse of process aimed at punishing him for criticizing the government.

The three petitioner argue that their case is part of the alarming trend where state agencies are misusing the Anti-Terror act to target government critics.

At the core of the petition are series of constitution violations which includes:

Abuse of Prosecution power: using the prevention of terrorism act for political machination which is contrary to it’s intended purpose.
